In celebration of our 160th anniversary, Halifax Seed is pleased to offer a limited edition collection of Heritage Seed Packets inspired by the archives of our catalogue. Each of the 9 varieties in this collection have appeared in historical Halifax Seed catalogues as early as 1906. These tried and true favourites are as reliable as ever, and each variety comes in a vintage-inspired seed packet.

This heirloom variety is wonderful in containers, window boxes, or in the garden as a bedding plant. Double and semi-double blooms are abundant in shades of yellow, orange, red and salmon. Flowers are edible with a light peppery taste, perfect tossed into a salad or used as a garnish. Plants grow up to 60cm (24”) tall.

Care: Direct sow in a sunny location 1-2 weeks before last frost. For earlier blooms, sow indoors 4 weeks before last frost. Seedlings are sensitive to transplant shock, so handle with care. Fertilize when first flower buds open. Water weekly during dry periods.

Harvest: Flowers and leaves are edible!

Jewel Double Dwarf Mix first appeared in the Halifax Seed catalogue in 1937, where the description read “Fine bedding plants, great heat and drought resisters, lovely colors, grow about 1 ft. high and 1 ft. across. A bed of different colours gives fine effect.”
